Eagle Lake Sawing

If you have boxelder firewood and throw it away think again.

Try this....cut and split some green boxelder and ash that is green. Let both season for three to four months in direct sunlight and allow the wind to get at both.

Now the heating season is here, put the same size pieces of boxelder and ash side by side and see which one burns the longest. There is not much difference!

Boxelder gets a bad rap because people get some that is rotten and call it junk. Punky ash is also junk, so if you are buying oak mix it with boxelder and you pay less for your firewood because it's a mixed hard and softwood load.

Ash In Manitoba, Canada
by: Mr. O

Ash if bountyful in my few acers and if seasoned for at least 6 months it burns well and gives off lots of heat.

I also agree with the boxelder article. I have lots growing, so I cut them down and let my ash trees grow little longer. I'm planning to plant yellow and black birch and red oaks in my lot since the ash bug is working towards my way.

Soft Wood?
by: Anonymous

Are you thinking boxelder is a soft wood and adding it to oak would be mixed? Boxelder is of the maple family and is definitely a hardwood like oaks, ash and the other maples.
